After a friend told me about Euler’s identity, an equation that uses all the basic facets of math but ends up with zero as the solution, I wrote this essay as a commentary on the identity, and how the human potential to develop such an equation reflects on our greater desire for higher creation. This essay won a Gold Key at the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition, as well as being named as one of the three “Best in Show” pieces, along with my play, Something in the Way. With this award, both pieces were nominated for a Gold Medal at the National Competition, as well as an American Voice Award. This essay would be the winner, receiving both awards.
